This website — called Matrioshka, after the traditional Russian nesting doll — aims to introduce Russia, its language and culture to the Polish audience.

Matrioshka tries to fill a niché that exists because the media coverage of Russia in Poland is next-to-nothing, except some (often misguided) political commentaries randomly appearing in the press.

Bridging this information gap is important because not only do both countries share a border, but they also have a common culture.

Matrioshka is an independent, not-for-profit, ad-free website created by Piotr Szczepański in 2005. It operates on a wiki principle, allowing many authors to contribute and be suitably credited for their work (although to be admitted one needs to submit their introductory article first).

The website content won’t be very useful to you unless you are a Polish speaker, but you may still want to take a look at the photo gallery:
